Regulation for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States, Philadelphia, 1779

$38.00

This is the famous “blue book” of von Steuben as it was published in Philadelphia in 1779 for use at Valley Forge. This is the first edition of the work, not that issued by Dover Press which is the 1792 edition. This work is indispensable for those wishing to do an accurate portrayal of the American Army during its formative period. The work is complete, with 8 large full page folding plates in the back just as they appear in the original from which this work was reproduced. The work is bound in an 18th century style quarter leather spine, with raised bands and blue paper boards, hence the name “blue book.” The end papers are reprints of the Pennsylvania Magazine which were also used in the original as Congress did not want to spend additional monies on unused paper.
