Grievances of the American Colonies
$10.00
With the date of July 30, 1764, Stephen Hopkins released the following document in the form of a booklet having the full title of The Grievances of the American Colonies Candidly Examined. The pamphlet was printed by order of the General Assembly in 1765, and reissued in London in the following year. It addressed the many concerns that the colonies had regarding the repressive measures of Parliament, especially in lieu of the Stamp Act. The opening lines are quite appropriate during the current disease crisis:
Liberty is the greatest blessing that man can enjoy, and slavery the greatest curse that human nature is capable of. Hence it is a matter of the utmost importance to men which of the two shall be their portion. Absolute liberty is, perhaps, incompatible with any kind of government.
Bound with a printed wrap and side stitched.
