Gentleman’s Magazine for March 1777
$12.00
This copy of the Gentleman’s Magazine from our collection contains information regarding the battle of Trenton that had been engaged in December, 1776.
The Battle of Trenton was a small but pivotal battle on the morning of December 26, 1776, in Trenton, New Jersey. After Washington crossed the Delaware, north of Trenton the previous night, he led the main body of the Continental Army against Hessian auxiliaries garrisoned at Trenton. After a brief battle, almost two-thirds of the Hessian force were captured, with negligible losses to the Americans. The army then moved on to the Battle of Assunpink and engaging the British forces at Princeton. The battle significantly boosted the Continental Army’s waning morale, and inspired re-enlistments.
This copy contains two full pages of letters and descriptions from both the American and British points of view. Washington’s account is taken from the Congressional Gazette. The accounts appear on p. 141 and following.
The work also contains interesting article on how the Devil got the name Old Nick and there is a folding map of the canal being excavated in Nottingham.
Side stitched with a printed wrap, $12.00
